I
have been asked to write a "profile" about myself for this page.
Now what will people want to know about me?
I
was born and brought up in West London, living on a council estate
with my parents and two older brothers. My secondary education was
at a school which seemed to specialise in producing teachers and
nurses.
I eventually joined the ranks of the former, and have taught in
inner city schools in Liverpool and London, and for thirteen years
in a large comprehensive school in Sussex, where I had the various
roles of Head of the Religious Studies department, Head of Sixth
Form and eventually Senior Mistress with responsibility for the
pastoral care of the school.
I became a Christian whilst a student and joined a Baptist church.
Whilst teaching in London I was involved in youth work and with
a drug rehabilitation centre. In 1975 I joined a Christian community
in Dorset.
The Barnabas fellowship ran a conference and counselling centre
which particularly focused on the healing ministry of the church.
I grew to love the Anglican liturgy and the centrality of the Eucharist
and was confirmed into the Anglican Church in 1978.
My pilgrimage of faith began to move me in the direction of ordination.
In 1984 I was licensed as a Reader, and was ordained Deacon in 1991
following a lengthy selection procedure and a three year part-time
course at the last Salisbury and Wells Theological College. I went
on to complete my Master of Arts Degree.
I
love life and live it to the full. I have been an obsessive traveller
and have been organising parish holidays and pilgrimages to Israel
for many years. I love singing and have been known to play a guitar
badly. I enjoy music of all kinds, with a particular liking for
Mozart and Bob Dylan! I also enjoy watching TV and happily admit
to being a fan of some of the "soaps". Although I could never be
described as "sylph-like" I am very active and regularly swim, walk
and visit the gym. I play a mean game of canasta, backgammon and
Mah-jong (what??!) and paint for relaxation.
I
joined the Bridport Team Ministry in July 1995. I am enjoying being
here and am very excited about what God is doing. As well as being
Vicar of the churches in Bradpole and Walditch, I have responsibility
for children and youth work throughout the team and am encouraged
by the support there is for this work. I am a member of the Diocesan
Synod, a member of the Board of Ministry and I am a staff tutor
for Continuing Ministerial Education 1-4 in the Diocese
The Vicarage,
King's Head Hill,
Bradpole.
